Montgomery Regional Hospital Nurse is Single Winner of Statewide Award
Amy Woods, Director of Surgical Services at Montgomery Regional Hospital, has been honored with the 2009 Magnet Excellence in Nursing Leadership award. This award, sponsored by the Virginia Magnet Consortium in partnership with the Virginia Nurses Association, is awarded to only one nurse in the entire Commonwealth of Virginia each year.
Woods was chosen for the award for demonstrating the highest level of professional nursing practice, showing stellar leadership and achievement, and for serving as a role model for other leaders.
Amy is greatly respected and admired by the administrative team, her management peers, and the more than 80 employees who report to her, said Loressa Cole, Chief Nursing Officer, Montgomery Regional Hospital. Her contagious energy and compassionate outreach within the hospital and the communities we serve is inspiring. She serves as a model for can do leadership and friendship that is the foundation for healthy work environments and the magnetic culture desired for our hospital.
A 25-year employee of Montgomery Regional Hospital, Woods took on her current position in 2003. She is an active participant in community events such as the American Cancer Societys Relay for Life, and walks for the Arthritis Foundation and the American Heart Association. She also volunteers for the Montgomery County Christmas Store and the hospitals United Way drives and has previously served as president of the Blacksburg High School athletic boosters. She is also a driving force for athletic physicals in the four area high schools. Earlier this year, she facilitated dozens of physicians in the New River Valley to donate their time to provide sports physicals to more than 300 high school athletes, who otherwise wouldve been unable to pay or participate in sports.
